１５歳の時にアラブに、砂漠に魅せられ、心を奪われた。それらを自分なりに表現したいという想いが私に写真の道を選ばせた。私が初めてシリアを訪れたのは1987年。1995年からは１７年間、シリア沙漠の同じベドウィンの家族を撮影をしている。

ベドウィンはアラブの祖、原点である。元来「アラブ」と言う言葉はベドウィンを指し、彼らも自身を「アラブ」としか呼ばない。

　私たちは様々な色の付いたメガネで人や事柄を見てしまう。偏見・決めつけ・欲目、etc…。

だが初めてベドウィンの家族の元に行った際、彼らは私を透明のメガネで見てくれた。見ず知らずの日本人の女である私を受け入れてくれた。その後、夫を連れて行っても、息子を連れて行っても、変わらずに色の付いていないメガネで見て迎えてくれた。
　
シリアの現状を知る事はとても大切。同時にシリアの素晴らしさを知る事はもっと大切な事だと思っている。

今、一人でも多くの人に透明なメガネをかけてシリアを見てもらいたい。
何よりも争いが一刻も早く終結し、愛する地で愛する人たちが幸せに暮らせる日を、 また沙漠に帰り共に笑い合える日を待ち望んで止まない。

Bedouins, who refer to themselves simply as Arabs (originally, “Arab” was synonymous with “Bedouin”), are nomads who live in the deserts of the Middle East.

We tend to see people and things with biased eyes. Prejudice, presumption, jealousy, etc….
However, when I visited the Bedouin family for the first time, they saw me with utterly unbiased eyes. They accepted me even though I was a strange Japanese woman. After that, they welcomed me with unbiased eyes whenever I brought my husband and son.

It is very important to know the present situation of Syria.
Similarly ,I believe it is more important to know how wonderful Syria is.
Now I would like as many people as possible to see Syria with unbiased eyes.
